In this session Beau Miles will tell you a story about burning shit on the Cape-to-Cape track- on his way to Margaret River to talk at ECC25. Actually, you’ll see it, and if your imagination is good enough, you might smell it. Like many of us, Beau hates seeing people take a crap next to a trail, usually at trail heads or carparks, and leave their toilet paper at the scene of the crime. To celebrate other people being arseholes, Beau will clean up as much of it as possible as he makes his way along the track, stopping to have a ceremony of sorts- a small stick fire to boil a cuppa, before heading on his way to see the trail he came to run. He’ll film as he goes. Once he’s burnt enough crap he’ll hand over his batch of footage to a young gun editor from the WA cosmos, and the following day, both filmmaker and editor will come together to talk about the story. What it means, the process of storytelling, and how the essence of life, and a small idea can be masterfully- or crudely, put together to show the beauty and treachery of the human mind.
The second half of the session will talk about the value of creativity; how to earn money; why it matters; why it’s hard (and that’s a good thing); and how a beast like YouTube is evolving humans and how humans are evolving it.
