Sean Hsu is a Taiwanese-born filmmaker, photographer, and storyteller based in the South West of Western
Australia. His creative journey began in Taiwan, where he studied film and nurtured an early passion for visual storytelling.
In 2012, Sean migrated to Australia, carrying dreams of creativity but spending eight years working
long hours in hospitality to support himself. During those years, he discovered something vital: in the eyes of those he served, he could see stories, emotions, and fragments of humanity that would shape his art.
In 2020, Sean founded Ovis Creative Productions, determined to build a professional practice rooted in
resilience and community. Since then, his commissioned work has spanned wineries, councils, tourism operators, and cultural organisations, with screenings from regional festivals to Optus Stadium. He has collaborated with Indigenous groups to support identity storytelling and has worked with musicians, dancers, and visual artists, shaping projects that speak to all five senses. He also created a local film and stills group to address the lack of industry support in regional WA.
Living in the South West, Sean realised how many powerful stories remain unseen outside the city. His work strives to give those voices space and to show that world-class storytelling can be born in regional Western Australia. He also mentors young creatives, sharing the lessons of his journey to help others find their voice. Now, Sean is developing his most ambitious project: Flying Cloud, a feature-length musical film inspired by his migration journey, redefining belonging, and celebrating stories that communities across WA can relate to.
